Help With Breastfeeding My Newborn. Please Read?

Hi. I’ve already asked this question but I’m adding more detail. My little girl is 4 days old and I started off breastfeeding her but it was harder than I expected. She had real trouble attaching, she doesn’t open her mouth wide enough. I kept it up but my nipples are really sore and red. It’s just too painful as she only sucks the nipple.
My midwife wasn’t very helpful and advised me to give her a top up bottle of formula. I do really want to continue to give my daughter breast milk.
So I was just wondering is it possible to pump breastmilk and feed it from a bottle? I know some people breastfeed and pump aswell. But can I exclusively pump and just feed from a bottle or will it affect my milk supply as baby isn’t feeding direct from my breast?
It was day 2 my midwife suggested offering a top up in hospital as i had a c-section and my baby had been feeding constantly since birth. Every 45 mins to an hour she was feeding for 15 mins at least. I was in alot of pain as it was from the section and i couldn’t put her down as she constantly wanted me and my breast so the hospital midwives suggested a top up feed to give me a break as I had had no sleep at all (I did say no at this point as I wanted to persevere).
If i thought I could express until my nipples heal and then give breastfeeding another go I would, but I’ve been told this isn’t possible as it causes nipple confusion. There’s no way I can breastfeed until they heal, they are red raw and bleeding. I don’t want to give up on breastfeeding altogether. I know we will be able to work out the latching on, but until my nipples heal I can’t try again. I’ve also been using lanisoh cream.
Thanks for reading any advice appreciated.
